Leland Ironworks artist in residence Veronica V. R. Reeves
Leland Iron Works Artist Residency

Finding roots in the improvisational surrealist practice of collage, Reeves creates paintings that embrace the unknown. Reeves’ paintings investigate what human emotional and spiritual relationship to the Earth looks like in a time of ecological destabilization. The identities of Reeves’ subjects and settings emerge and erode, often in inverted and saturated colors, veering into abstraction. Images of natural settings, Earth processes, and celestial events combined with figures and eroding human structures hint at the sublime force of creation and destruction.  A palette including iridescent, super matte, and neon paints speaks to the value of viewing artwork in person rather than through digital reproduction.
