Ripple Art – We Love Clean Rivers project

Earlier this year, I was a lucky participant of the We Love Clean Rivers river clean up and arts auction project! I am always glad when I volunteer for things like this and grateful for Laura Devito’s hard work. I’m sure there will be more seasons to come, judging by the level of participation from the community!

This year, the clean up volunteers came down the river on rafts, I saw a couple scuba divers, and I helped sort trash with another handful and a half of volunteers. While sorting, I was amazed by the amount of material that was brought in, and the atrocious fact that this was in the beautiful river! The materials that course through my daily life are my responsibility, and we were taking responsibility for the human made materials we found in the river. We sorted trash into 3 huge dumpsters, trash, sorted recyclables, and scrap metals. I, artist volunteer, was rewarded with my pickings of the scrap!

I used the metal to make my Peacemeal series, and sent the best pieces to the Ripple Art auction to benefit future We Love Clean River projects and to The Nkisi Project in Denver, Co. The Ripple Art show and auction is currently underway and will remain showing until December 15th, 2014.
